Transport Authority has said today that the opportunity to provide motorcycle taxi service does not require service companies to use their own vehicles and they can use vehicles of private citizens.
They said that the motorcycle service is open for the atolls as well and it is not compulsory that the motorcycles used in the service to belong to the service provider. And so motorcycles from 20 individuals can be registered with the service provider.
Chairman of the Transport Authority, Abdul-Rasheed Nafiz said that most islands still lack a good taxi service and in turn the people of those islands are faced with some difficulties.
The Transport Ministry said that the motorcycle taxi service is intended to be provided as a low-cost service where as many people can join in.
The inauguration of the service in the capital has received a lot of support from the public. The fare on a motorcycle taxi is MVR 10.
