27-day sentence for taking part in fight which led to death of teen

Mohamed Jinaad from M. Geranium in Male’ City has been sentenced to 27-days in prison for his role in the street fight which led to the death of 14-year-old Ahmed Irushan Hilmy from K. Kaashidhoo.

The street fight took place in Majeedhee Magu at approximately 5:30 pm on June 3, 2016.

Irushan died from stab wounds he sustained during the fight later at Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital.

Jinaad was sentenced by Criminal Court last Tuesday, January 24 for violating public peace and safety after he confessed to partaking in the fight.

Three minors have been charged with murdering an individual using a sharp weapon, and multiple minors have been charged with violating public peace and safety by taking part in the fight.

Irushan’s murder led to another death – the death of 14-year-old Fathir Mohamed Ali – in retaliation later that night.
