“Maldives Counter-Terrorism Security Workshop 2017” has begun to raise awareness of Maldivian tourism industry on potential terrorist attacks.
The workshop began in Kurumba Island Resort last Tuesday, January 24, and is participated by security officers from 83 Maldivian resorts and 120 tourism industry stakeholders.
Head of Police Counter-Terrorism Department, Ahmed Ali reported to “Sun” this Wednesday that the authority will be educating tourism industry on the current safety and security status of the industry, measures to tighten security, and measures to deal with potential acts of terror.
“We will be raising awareness on how to deal with robberies, muggings, and acts of terrorism,” said Ahmed.
He said that through the workshop, the authority hoped to strengthen partnership between police and security officers working in resorts, and inter-resort partnerships.
Ahmed said the authority wished to hold more counter-terrorism workshops for tourism industry stakeholders.
“Maldives Counter-Terrorism Security Workshop 2017” is being conducted through collaboration with Maldives Police Service, the UK Metropolitan Police, Ministry of Home Affairs, and Ministry of Tourism.
Police reports stakeholders will be holding in-depth discussions regarding issues and challenges facing tourism industry in terms of security during the two-day workshop.
