President Abdullah Yameen Abdul Gayoom announced Saudi Arabian government has expressed interest in investing in a huge project in F. Atoll.
President Yameen made the announcement during function held this Tuesday to inaugurate F. Magoodhoo harbor.
During the inauguration, President Yameen said top officials in Saudi government were very interested in investing in F. Atoll.
President Yameen said design work on the Saudi project was now complete.
He said the project will create “hundreds of jobs”, and that F. Atoll had the potential to be the wealthiest atoll in Maldives via the project.
“We were waiting for this huge project to start in this atoll last year. And we are waiting for this huge project to start this year,” said President Yameen.
He said the project was larger than the government could proceed with alone. And that it will be beneficial to international businessmen and travelers alike.
President Yameen said such a project had previously been carried out in only three or four places across the world.
“It’s our pray to Allah that F. Atoll sees progress the likes of which hasn’t been seen before through the project,” he said.
President Yameen said the project had been kept on hold due to the political situation in the country.
