RajjeTV journalists Mohamed Wisam and Leevan Ali have been fined MVR 28,800 each by Criminal Court after they were found guilty of obstructing a law enforcement officer from performing his duty.
State prosecution alleged that Wisam grabbed a police officer attempting to arrest an individual who defied orders by authorities clear out from the area during a joint operation by police and military at the stadium on November 2, 2016.
Leevan was also accused of obstructing the police officer.
Criminal Court ruled this Tuesday that both Wisam and Leevan were found guilty of the charge based on witness testimony.
It said that though the general punishment for the offense was four months and 24 days in prison; Wisam and Leevan will only be required to pay a fine given that it was their first such offense.
Wisam and Leevan have been ordered to pay the fine amount to court within one month.
