President: All freedoms cannot be given to please the west

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has said that all the freedoms cannot be given to please Europe and the world since the Maldives is a 100 percent Muslim country.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the beach protection project at Meemu atoll Naalaafushi, the President said that there is a group of people challenging the country to grant religious freedom but it is not something that can be granted to please the world.

The President said that his government does not work to gain the attention of the globe but achieve the things needed by it’s people as much as possible.

Criticizing the former President Mohamed Nasheed, President Yameen said that about 300 lands and lagoons were given to provide transportation but that service never reached the people.

As the government is working achieve as much as possible within their limits, the President said that having Island and Atoll Councils with the same thinking as the government would make it easier to provide more service.
