Two new vessels join airport rescue service

Two new vessels have been brought in for the rescue service at Velana International Airport.

At a special ceremony held at the airport this afternoon, the Managing Director of the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), Adhil Moosa said that equipment required by the Ground Handling, Fire Rescue and Marine Station were brought in before.

Adhil said that sea vessels are needed in case of any incidents involving seaplanes.

He said that the two vessels would also be used if any incidents take place in the nearby area aside from seaplane incidents.

The rescue team at Velana Airport is handled by MNDF officers and trained professionals in the rescue field.

With the addition of the two new vessels, the number of vessels at the airport rescue has risen to four. MACL said that the new vessels are superior in quality than the old ones.

At the ceremony today, the airport’s rescue team displayed a demonstration of a rescue operation.
