Maldives Ports Limited has filed a civil lawsuit against Meridium, asking for termination of its contract with Meridium for supply of diesel.
Civil Court previously ordered MPL to honor its contract and make Meridium its sole supplier of diesel. A ruling which MPL has filed for appeal with the High Court.
MPL has filed a new lawsuit against Civil Court, alleging that Meridium filed its lawsuit with Civil Court over the termination of the contract without discussion regarding the subject with MPL.
The lawsuit reads that the action was a violation of the spirit of the contract, and requests Civil Court to terminate the contract.
The issue is currently at the dispute resolution stage, and will be taken to trial if both sides fail to come to agreement.
CEO of MPL, Mohamed Junaid has raised allegations the contract was awarded to Meridium through corrupt means. Anti-Corruption Commission is currently investigating the claim.
