Bottom of “Fairy Lake” captured on camera for first time

Legend has it that the “Fairy Lake” in L. Gan is connected to the ocean from underground. Surrounded by thick foliage, the lake lays beautiful and unique from other lakes. It is said to be where fairies bath at midnight.

The lake lays to the east of Gan “Kuruhinnaige”, 70 feet to the west from the shoreline.

Legend has it that the lake is of unknown depth, and that anything which falls into the lake appears again from the middle of the Hadhdhoo Sea.

Free diver Mohamed Rasheed (Pindo) has dared to venture into the depths of the lake; capturing scenes from the bottom of the lake on camera for the first time.

“It’s not that deep. The deepest point is about 12 meters [39 foot]. Other points were 9 meters.

The shallowest points were four meters,” said Pindo.

Pindo dived into the lake on Saturday afternoon, capturing his descent on camera.

“Leaves from trees and branches. There was mud. But it wasn’t that muddy. It was very dark.

There was no light. The sun was shining brightly when I went down,” said Pindo, sharing his experience.

He said that water at the bottom of the lake was saltier and far colder than the water on the surface.

Vice President of Gan Council, Abdulla Nafiz reported that there was no record of anyone having dived to the bottom of the lake.

“Not as far as I know. I haven’t heard any rumor of it being done either. It’s been said since long back that the depth of the lake is unknown,” said Nafiz.

The lake measures 953-meters in circumference and is surrounded by foliage. It’s not connected to the ocean at any point.

Video footage of the bottom of “Fairy Lake” has brought an end to some of the mystery surrounding the lake.
