Additional 8.9 megawatt generator brought to power Male’ City

An additional 8.9 megawatt generator has been brought by State Electric Company (Stelco) to improve the quality of its services in Male’ City.

Stelco already has a 64 megawatt generator, and the additional generator will push the company’s capacity to 72.9 megawatts.

Electricity usage in Male’ City stands at an average 54 megawatts during peak hours.

An engineer working for Stelco, Ibrahim Rauf reported that the additional generator was brought in on Saturday, January 21. And that it was to accommodate the increase in number of buildings under construction in the capital, which will create more demand for electricity.

Rauf said the generator will be installed and made operational in April.

He said the generator, once made operational, will ease the strain capacity and maintenance.
