Kaadehdhoo airport taken under government, Maamigili airport to become domestic

The state has taken the Gaafu Dhaalu Kaadehdhoo airport run by Villa air ad converted the Maamiligi international airport to a domestic airport.

Director General of Regional Airports, Sami Ageel told Sun Media today that the operations of Kaadehdhoo airport was given to Villa Air to operate according to the Civil Aviation Regulations. But the agreement was nullified today after the company violated the regulations.

He said that the Villa International Airport operated in Maamigili was contracted to Villa Trade and Shipping. And as per the request from the company, the airport was changed to a domestic airport on 1 June 2016.

Kaadehdhoo airport was given to Villa on 2 February 2013. And the airport was taken from Villa in August 2014 after a disagreement between the Government and the Chairman of Villa Group, Qasim Ibrahim.

But the airport was given back to Villa in September and has been operate by Villa up to this point.
