Ex PSM director to be prosecuted over payment for unconstructed apartments

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has made the decision to press for prosecution of former Director of Procurement Department of Public Service Media, Mohamed Hashim over two years of lease payment for two floors of an unconstructed building.

ACC released its report on investigation into the case this Monday, in which the commission said PSM has been making MVR 74,000 per month in lease payment for the two floors over a two-year period up until June, 2016. And that the lease payment was made despite criterions in the lease agreement being unfulfilled.

ACC said PSM had paid total MVR 481,000 in lease payments so far. And that the investigation showed exertion of undue influence by Director of Procurement Department at the time, Mohamed Hashim, in making the payments.

The commission said the case involved corruption, and that it had been forwarded to Prosecutor General’s Office for prosecution.

When asked for a comment by “Sun”, Hashim said he could not recall the details of what happened during that time. And that he has been questioned by ACC over the issue.
