Stelco releases calendar, celebrates talents of disabled children

Children with disabilities require extra care and attention; their future, dependent on the community charged with nurturing them. Each child, disabled or otherwise have their own unique talents and contributions to society. Celebrating such contributions and talents is one of the greatest gifts one can bestow upon any child.

State Electric Company (Stelco), this Monday, provided children with disabilities with just such a gift as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility projects.

Stelco has released its annual calendar which depicts colorful and imaginative illustrations by children with disabilities, distributing it to offices in Male’ City and the atolls.

Stelco’s calendar includes illustrations by 16 children with disabilities studying at the Jewel Center in Imaaduddin School, many of which depicts the natural beauty of Maldives.

The beaming children were provided with certificates of appreciation as well as copies of the calendars by Managing Director of Stelco, Abdul Shukoor Solih, in a function held at Imaaduddin School on Sunday night.

Speaking during the function, Shukoor said that Stelco wanted to provide a platform for children with disabilities to showcase their talents and prove to the community that they did not lack talent in spite of their disabilities.

“These children, with their work, have proved they are extremely creative,” said Shukoor.

There are currently 87 children studying at the Jewel Center in Imaaduddin School.

One of its teachers thanked Stelco for the opportunity to showcase the talents of the students through the calendar, and noted that one of the 12 illustrations were by a former student at the center, who has since passed away.

Stelco reports it has distributed 1,500 copies of the calendar to offices in Male’ City and the atolls.
