National Disaster Management Center reports it has spent MVR 4 million in relief aid to victims of fires during the past two-year period.
There were seven major fire disasters in Maldives over the past two-years – which damaged five homes and two businesses.
Records that National Disaster Management Center shared with “Sun” shows an estimated MVR 8.6 million in damages to households due to the fires.
MVR 600,000 was spent to provide 228 people with temporary housing due to the fires.
MVR 3.4 million was spent in monetary aid to compensate for damages to households.
National Disaster Management Center and Allied Insurance’s Islamic window – Ayady Takaful has introduced the “Kaarisaa Takaful” insurance plan to combat damages from disasters such as fires. The insurance plan covers temporary housing.
