Police has disclosed that President of Women’s Development Committee of Sh. Lhaimagu, Haleema Adam was attacked with bleach, and that major progress had been made in its investigation into the case.
The bleach was thrown into Haleema’s face just as she opened the doors of her home at dawn on Saturday, December 24.
Police arrested a 21-year-old man and a 23-year-old man from Lhaimagu the same day.
The authority reported that it had now found out how the crime took place, and that it would complete its investigation and send it forward to Prosecutor General’s Office soon.
The 21-year-old man has been remanded for seven days and the 23-year-old man has been remanded for 10 days by Sh. Fonadhoo Magistrate Court.
Both the suspects are being kept in a place designated by Ministry of Home Affairs.
Maldives Police Service has condemned the attack, warning that such crimes, which involve violence against women, were taken very seriously by the authority.
