Police have arrested the young man who fled after hitting a police officer - working in a checkpoint set up in Bodu Thakurufaanu Magu near Kalhuthukkalaa Koshi - with his motorcycle.
The 18-year-old young man, who does not have a license to operate a land motor vehicle, was arrested by the police on Sunday afternoon.
The incident, which dislocated the ankle of the right-feet of the policeman and broke bones, took place at approximately 9:45 pm on Saturday.
The 18-year-old arrested in the case had ignored the warning by police to stop at the checkpoint and had allegedly fled after hitting the policeman with his motorcycle.
The policeman injured in the incident has been identified as Police Constable Ali Rifau, who works at the Traffic Management Department.
Rifau is being treated at Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital, and is scheduled to be sent abroad to India for further treatment.
The case is under investigation by Serious and Organized Crime Department.
