Police have issued a public warning over the spike in muggings and robberies in Male’ City.

The year-end holiday season sees a spike in muggings and robberies each year; and Chief Inspector of Police, Hussain Sameer has warned the public over the current spike in muggings and robberies.

“Some people are somewhat careless over items such as their handbags or phones when walking on the streets, the lack of vigilance increases the opportunities for muggers,” warned Sameer.

Sameer warned that the community needed to be extra vigilant in order to obstruct muggers and robbers from victimizing them.

He advised that everyone make sure the doors are locked.

Sameer said that complaints over robberies and muggings were being filed with the police; but that no major robbery had been reported yet.

He said that a large force of police officers had been dispatched to maintain peace and security over the recent spike in crime rate in Male’ City.
