Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) has started waste collection from the residential homes in Malé City today.
Today marks the beginning of the first round of waste collection and disposal in Malé City. And so the collection began at 6 p.m. at the block of Kalaafaanu School in Henveiru.
While the waste collection is taking place by dividing the city into ten zones, the waste was collected from the houses in Zone 1.
Individual expatriates are usually involved in the waste disposal from the houses in Malé but in an effort to do is responsibly, WAMCO opened for registrations last month.

WAMCO said that 51 houses registered in the given period. WAMCO offers the collection and disposal service to the registered houses only.
The prices set by WAMCO for the service at MVR 100 per building and MVR 150 for individual units per month. WAMCO said that the building is meant as in the waste gathered at the ground floor.
Although WAMCO has started the waste collection, they are currently conducting a testing phase. The company said that they are receiving massive support from the public and would increase the number of residences starting next month.
Aside from the waste collection, WAMCO has also started a project worth of USD 100 million to put an end to the waste burning in Thilafushi.
