Drug Enforcement Department of the Maldives Police Service has started a large scale operation against drugs.
Police said that the operation began on Thursday is part of their efforts to protect the country from drugs, reduce the number of drug related crime and crime in general along with creating a safe environment for the society.
Aside from searching different locations in Hulhumalé and Malé City, other islands in the Kaafu atolls are also in focus for the operation where the K9 unit will be joining.
While drug suspects and locations are being searched under the operation, so far 369 people and four locations have been searched according to the Police where five cellophane packs, four chocolates suspected of containing drugs along with cannabis seeds and cigarettes suspected of containing drugs were found at the searched locations.
The Police also arrested a 22-year-old man with drugs on Friday night. He was taken into custody and his room was searched where 50 rubber packets of suspected drugs along with tools used in the packing of drugs.
