Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has begun selling USD to locals travelling abroad at the time of their request.
While the MMA began selling USD to local travellers from 20 November 2016 onwards, the central bank has been checking the papers of those leaving in the week and USD is sold later in the day.
Information Officer of MMA, Mansoor Zubair told Sun Media today that the MMA is now selling USD immediately after reviewing the documents.
“Now we can manage, that is why dollar is sold immediately.” Information Officer Zubair said.
As a large number of people are travelling for the year-end holidays, MMA sold over USD 2.8 million to 5,500 tickets in the first three weeks they began selling.
