Maldives Monetary Authority has launched its survey on expenditure by Maldivians on international travel.
The central bank announced that the survey will continue at the arrivals terminal of Ibrahim Nasir International Airport from this Saturday, December 24 to December 30.
The survey will cover the reasons why Maldivians travel abroad, the countries Maldivians travel to, the cost of tickets, expenditure on food and accommodation, expenditure on medical treatment, and the total expenditure per trip.
MMA said that information by individuals who participate in the survey are confidential.
The survey on international travel expenditure by Maldivians in 2015 showed Maldivians most frequently travelled to Sri Lanka, India, Malaysia and Thailand.
1,574 Maldivians travelled to Sri Lanka and then returned back to Maldives in 2015, spending an average of USD 554 per person.
1,535 Maldivians travelled to India and then returned back to Maldives in 2015, spending an average of USD 524 per person; 222 Maldivians travelled to Malaysia and then returned back to Maldives in 2015, spending an average of USD 1,062 per person; and 219 Maldivians travelled to Thailand and then returned back to Maldives in 2015, spending an average of USD 844 per person.
