In a directive issued today, the President’s Office has instructed its directive numbered 24/2016 (18 December 2016) to be implemented starting 1st January 2017.
The directive numbered 24/2016 instructs all State institutions to not present awards which may resemble, in name, the National Award of Honor or the Special Achievement Award.

A statement issued by the President’s Office, discouraged the recent practice by several government institutions of giving out awards resembling the titles. President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom stated that such actions create less respect for the honorees of the National Award of Honor and Special Achievement Award, the statement said.
Each year the government confers National Awards of Honor and Special Achievement awards celebrating individuals and institutions who work for the greater benefit of the country; recognizing individuals, associations, businesses, service providers at a national level.
