Drilling of all 35 piles for main China-Maldives Friendship Bridge complete

Minister of Housing and Infrastructure, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that drilling of all 35 piles for the five piers of the main China-Maldives Friendship Bridge was now complete.

Minister Muizzu made the announcement via his official Twitter account this Wednesday evening.

The work was scheduled to be completed before the end of this December.

Speaking during the function “Habeys 3 Years” to celebrate President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom’s three-year administration, Minister Muizzu said that 50 percent of the construction of the approach bridge would be completed by end of 2016.

The approach bridge will connect the main bridge from Male’ and Hulhule’.

The USD 200 million project is being undertaken by China Communications Construction Company Limited (CCCC).

The bridge will measure 1.39 kilometers in length and 20 meters in width.

Dr. Muizzu announced that authorities were pushing to complete the bridge ahead of schedule – which is September, 2018 – in time for Independence Day, July 26, 2018.
