Sheikh Shameem appointed to Supreme Council of Fatwa

Al-Sheikh Adam Shameem and Ishaaq Mohamed Fulhu have been appointed to the Supreme Council of Fatwa.

President’s Office announced this Monday that the appointments were made by President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom on last Wednesday, December 7.

Supreme Council of Fatwa and Fiqh Academy were established this year in line with an amendment brought to Protection of Religious Unity Act.

Supreme Council of Fatwa is made up of five members. Who are:

1. Hassan Thaufeeq: Appointed by Ministry of Islamic Affairs

2. Al-Sheikh Adam Shameem: Appointed from among staff of Maldives National University and Islamic University under the advisement of President

3. Al-Sheikh Mohamed Rasheed Ibrahim: Appointed directly by President

4. Ibrahim Ahmed: Appointed directly by President

5. Ishaaq Mohamed Fulhu: Appointed directly by President
