Maldivian’s flight diverted to Trivandrum as Cyclone Vardah hits Chennai

Maldivian’s flight to Chennai this Monday has been diverted to Trivandrum after Cyclone Vardah made its way from Bay of Bengal to the city, resulting in the airport having to be shut down.

Head of Administration of Island Aviation – which runs Maldivian, Ali Nashaath Hameed reported to “Sun” that Chennai International Airport will remain shut this Monday and next Tuesday.

Maldivian has three weekly direct flights from Male’ to Chennai – one of which takes passengers to Dhaka in Bangladesh after a transit stop in Chennai.

Nashaath reported that Monday’s flight to Chennai had been diverted to Trivandrum, and that passengers who wished to travel from Trivandrum to Chennai by land had been arranged transported by Maldivian.

Meanwhile, passengers traveling to Dhaka have departed to the city via a flight from Trivandrum.

Many of the schools and businesses in Chennai have been shut down due to Cyclone Vardah. It has resulted in two confirmed deaths and has left scores homeless.
