The remaining heirs of the late lawyer Ahmed Najeeb, Shasma Ahmed Najeeb and Jinan Ahmed Najeeb have asked for the execution of those responsible for the murder of Najeeb.
Ahmed Murrath, 29, and Fathimath Hana, 18, have confessed to the brutal murder of Najeeb.
At today’s first trial session, the Judge asked Jinan if he wanted the death penalty or financial compensation for Najeeb’s death, to which he replied that he wanted the death penalty.
Also, the State Prosecutor asked Murrath and Hana individually if the statements given by them to the Police were forced in anyway, to which they both replied that the statements were true and no coercion was used.
At today’s second session, Najeeb’s daughter Shasma Ahmed Najeeb, who is in Sri Lanka, via a video conference call from the High Commission, also asked for the execution of those guilty for Najeeb’s murder.
The State Prosecutor asked for the opportunity to present evidence on the case to the court, despite Murrath and Hana’s confessions.
Concluding today’s session, the Judge announced that the next trial on the case will be held on 11 July, for the presentation of the summary statement; and the State will be given the opportunity to present evidence after the summary statement.
All eight heirs of Najeeb have asked for the death penalty for Najeeb’s murderers.
