Deadline for Council Election re-registration set to Dec 14

Elections Commission (EC) has set the deadline for re-registration for the Local Council Election to December 14.

EC had set the deadline for reregistration to November 21, but had announced that the opportunity was open indefinitely, following the Civil Court order to hold the deadline.

Member of EC, Ahmed Akram advised that those who wished to re-register to a poll station in another island submit their forms by 4 pm, December 14.

Those is Male’ who want to re-register need to submit their form to the Election headquarters set up in former Jamaluddin School grounds; and those in the islands need to submit the forms to the local councils.

Civil Court has ordered that the Local Council Election – scheduled to be held on January 14 – be postponed two more months. A decision that EC has appealed with the High Court.

The postponement came after ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) requested that the election be postponed as loss of important documents rendered them unable to hold a primary to select candidates for the election.
