CCCC contracted to design bridge’s toll system

China Communications and Construction Company (CCCC) has been contracted to design the toll system for the China-Maldives Friendship Bridge between Male’ and Hulhule’.

The announcement was made by Minister of Housing and Infrastructure, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu during the press conference held at Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure this Thursday.

Minister Muizzu said that CCCC will be designing a modern, electronic toll system for the bridge.

“We want to do this up to modern standard. It will be an electronic toll system,” said Muizzu.

He said the toll fee would be deducted automatically as vehicles pass the bridge, and said that it was the same toll system in place in countries such as Singapore.

Minister Muizzu said that construction of the China-Maldives Friendship Bridge was being carried out at a fast pace.

He said that 30 of the 35 poles needed for one of the main pillars of the bridge was already in place, and that the remaining 5 polls would be installed by end of December.

He said that more than half of the work on construction of the approach bridge would also be done by end of December.

Minister Muizzu said that even though the bridge was scheduled to be complete by September, 2018, they were working on completing the bridge by July 26, 2017 – in time for Independence Day.
