Minister of Home Affairs, Azleen Ahmed has remarked that major gang activities and gang fights were absent from the streets of Male’.
Minister Azleen made the remark to press during the function held at Ministry of Home Affairs this Tuesday to mark the three-year anniversary of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom’s presidency.
Azleen said that the streets of Male’ had been a dangerous place, but that major gang activities and gang fights were now absent from the streets.
He said the sight of youth sitting in crowds in the streets were absent, and that the measures taken to establish peace and security in Male’ had taken effect.
“The streets of Male’ had been a very dangerous place. Today we don’t see unemployed youth lazing on the streets. We don’t see purses being snatched from female pedestrians and their children. We don’t see major gang fights and gang violence,” said Azleen.
He said that with the peace and security in place, to make optimum use of the youth and provide them with the opportunity to work with him on his economic agenda.
He said that the government would be able to accomplish 100 percent of the targets set in the mandate of Ministry of Home Affairs by end of 2018.
