Step-grandson acquitted of Ayyube’s murder

Criminal Court has acquitted the suspect – the step grandson - in murder of Ali Hassan (Ayyube) from Dh. Kudahuvadhoo.

Criminal Court issued the verdict on Monday that the court did not have sufficient evidence to find the step grandson – Ibrahim Waseem guilty of being an accessory to the murder of Ayyube.

Ayyube was murdered on January 8, 2012 at approximately 7 pm.

Prosecution said that Ayyube was attacked as he was walking on the street, dragged to a nearby abandoned house, and then stabbed to death.

Another suspect, Fauzaan Mohamed from Kudahuvadhoo was also acquitted of the murder earlier.

The case also involves two minors – who were found guilty and sentenced by Juvenile Court four years ago.

Prosecution said that suspect statements proved Waseem and some other individuals had been given the knifes used in the murder for disposal; and that they had proceeded to throw some of it into the sea, and had buried some in the beach.
