Majlis sitting concluded without vote over system error

People’s Majlis sitting this Sunday was concluded without a call for votes over technical issues with the system.

Majlis Speaker, MP Abdulla Maseeh Mohamed concluded the sitting after announcing that the technical issues with the system wasn’t likely to be resolved anytime soon.

Voting on two bills were scheduled for Sunday’s sitting; the bill on an amendment to Criminal Procedure Act to postpone application for six more months – which was passed by National Security Commission, and the bill to amend Protection of Religious Unity Act – which was passed by Social Affairs Committee after evaluation.

The move to delay application of Criminal Procedure Act is being contested by the opposition, with North Mafannu MP Imthiyaz Fahmy saying that the criminal justice system of the country was deteriorating because of the delay.

Speaker Maseeh announced that the next Majlis sitting will be held on Monday, November 21.
