The preliminary hearing in the terrorism case against former Minister of Defense, Ameen Faisal over the arrest and one-week detention of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom during former President Mohamed Nasheed’s administration has been cancelled.
The preliminary hearing had been scheduled by Criminal Court for 1 pm, this Tuesday.
A court official who spoke to “Sun” said the hearing was cancelled after Ameen Faisal submitted a medical certificate.
President Yameen - who had then been the Mulah representative of People’s Majlis – was arrested by military officers and taken to K. Aarah on July 14, 2010.
He was released on July 23.
President Yameen had initially been arrested by police in a suspected case of bribery of members of People’s Majlis to fuel a coup attempt, but was later released under Supreme Court order.
He was detained by military officers and taken to Aarah after his release.
Prosecutor General’s Office filed the case with Criminal Court on October 24.
Ameen Faisal has maintained the stance that he had gone nothing illegal during his tenure as Defense Minister.
