MP proposes stalling Criminal Procedure Act

North Fuvahmulah MP, Ali Shah has proposed an amendment to Criminal Procedure Act to delay the date it starts taking effect.

MP Ali Shah has suggested moving the date from December 2 to July, 2017.

Criminal Procedure Act was passed by People’s Majlis on April 18, and ratified by President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom on May 2.

It was submitted to People’s Majlis by Thulusdhoo MP Mohamed Waheed Ibrahim (Wadde) and dictates procedures that need to be followed in criminal investigations and trials to make the process fairer and efficient.
