President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, who has been put in charge of running Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) by the courts, has called PPM an exemplary party operating in the Maldivian political field.
Speaking during the PPM gathering held at R. Dhuvaafaru on Saturday night, President Yameen said that PPM had left its impact on Maldivian politics, and showed the people how to proceed with politics.
He said that politics wasn’t just a matter of shaking one’s fists, and proved the effectiveness of peaceful political activities.
“What we did was, we went out jihad because the Maldivian people were thrown into a path barred of rights, thrown into darkness and fear. With our political movement, we demonstrated peaceful protesting – which but to end a powerful and evil rule,” said President Yameen.
He said that using force wasn’t something the people would stand by each and every time, and that PPM’s work in the political field had been exemplary.
President Yameen said that the people elected PPM to power in 2013 to take a chance on the promises that were made, while leading politicians had criticized PPM’s manifesto and described the promises as too farfetched.
“The people agreed to give us a chance to test us,” said President Yameen.
He said that PPM’s government had managed reach its target within three years, and spoke about the infrastructure development project being undertaken by the government.
