5,000 square-feet of land in Hulhumale’ has been allocated to build a soft toy factory, part of the bid to create a sustainable manufacturing industry in Maldives and expand range of products exported from the usual fish products or tourism.
Deputy Minister of Economic Development, Adam Thaufeeq reported this Saturday that the land for the factory had been allocated and that the contract would be signed very soon.
He said that manufacture and export of soft toys was just the start of the government’s work to establish a stronger manufacturing industry and market a wider range of products to the world.
“This is the work to produce soft toys at an industrial level. We are focusing most on soft toys at the moment. The series will continue like this,” said Thaufeeq.
In addition to soft toys, Ministry of Economic Development plans to produce traditional Maldivian products at an industrial level and export them.
