Leader of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), former Maldivian President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has appealed the court’s decision allowing overtake of PPM by President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.
In his file for appeal, Mamoon cited Article 51 (a) of PPM Constitution, which says that the head of the party was its leader. And Article 36 (b) of PPM Constitution, which says the second-in-charge of the party after the leader was its deputy leader.
Maumoon said it was being said Yameen had been given authority to head PPM council meetings, and full authority and responsibility to do everything necessary to achieve the targets of the party.
He said the court decision was a violation of Maldivian Constitution, Political Party Act, and PPM’s Constitution.
