Suspect in detention dies in IGMH

A suspect who was remanded to police custody by the court passed away under treatment at Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), early this Tuesday morning.

Information officer of Maldives Correctional Service, Ahmed Lugmaan identified the suspect who died as Hussain Zareer from Blue Heaven, Dh. Vaanee.

He was admitted to the hospital on Monday morning.

He had been in custody, pending end of trial, since January 28.

Lugmaan reported that Zareer had been taken to court on three occasions since he was remanded to the custody of MCS.

It is unclear at this point what his arrest was regarding.
