Minister: Allowance needs to be performance-based

President of National Pay Commission, Minister of Finance and Treasury, Ahmed Munawwar has remarked that allowance given to public servants needs to be performance-based.

Addressing the People’s Majlis after submitting the projected State budget for 2017 this Tuesday, Minister Munawwar remarked that it was in the agenda of NPA was to create pay equality.

He noted that the pay needs to designed is such a way that it drives up productivity.

“For this purpose, it’s important to establish a mechanism through which the productivity of employees can be measured. Bonus and other allowances given by the State based on the employees’ work performance,” said Munawwar.

NPA was established as a component of the state salary bill which was passed by People’s Majlis in April.

NPA has five members. They are:

1. Minister of Finance and Treasury, Ahmed Munawar

2. Under Secretary at President’s Office Dr. Isaam Mohamed

3. Assistant Executive Director at Maldives Monetary Authority, Lubna Abdul Qadir

4. Secretary General at Civil Service Commission, Dr. Mohamed Failal

5. Financial Controller at Ministry of Finance and Treasury, Fathimath Razeena
