Complaint submission regarding voters’ list for Council Election re-opened

Elections Commission (EC) has republished the voters’ list for upcoming Local Council Election in Government Gazette after amendments made following the first round of complaints, providing the opportunity to submit complaints for the second time.

EC announced that the voter’s list would be available for viewing from the Government Gazette, EC’s website, and council offices.

It can also be clarified by texting (VR space ID No) to 1414.

Complaints regarding the republished voters’ list can be submitted from 8 am to 2 pm until November 3.

Outside of Male’, complaints can be submitted to council offices and ward offices in Fuvahmulah City and Addu City.

Complaints can also be submitted to EC office in Male’.

Complaint forms will be available from EC’s website, and council offices.

651 council members for 259 councils will be selected in the upcoming Council Election. It includes 561 council members for 179 island councils, 57 council members for 19 atoll councils, and 23 council members for three city councils – including Fuvahmulah.

A recent amendment to Local Council Election Act means three council members will be elected in islands with populations of less than 3,000 people, five council members in islands with populations above 3,000 people, nine council members in islands with populations above 10,000, and three council members for each council in each district of Fuvahmulah City.

Local Council Election will be held on January 14, 2017.
