High Court upholds ruling allowing Yameen to take over PPM

High Court has upheld the Civil Court ruling ordering President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom to take over running of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) from its leader, former Maldivian President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom.

The case was filed a the High Court by a common member of PPM, Abbas Waafir (Seenu Hulhudhoo).

Delivering the verdict, the Chief Judge of the High Court, Abdulla Didi said that the ppm case was filled to bring an end to the halt of the party and if the laws and regulations cannot provide a remedy, one has to be provided through the court.

Judge Didi said that the ruling to handover PPM to President Yameen was a good ruling.

The verdict said that it is clear that President Maumoon is not running the party as per it's regulations and it is known by not refining the case at the dispute phase of the case and from Maumoons words on not holding regular Council meetings said during the High Court trial.

The verdict also said that the Courts have the power over matters not in writing in the laws.

High Court supported the Civil Court ruling with the unanimous decision of all the judges on the bench.

Talking to the press after the verdict, lawyer of President Maumoon, Husnu Suood said the ruling does not make sense and the case will be appealed at the Supreme Court.

Daughter of the former President, Yumna Maumoon told the press they she request that common member stay with President Maumoon and hope that a fair ruling would be made at the Supreme Court appeal.
