Agreements for the Thilafeshi Access Road Project – a road linking Thilafushi with the newly reclaimed land – have been signed.
Thilafushi Corporation signed the agreements with Ameen Construction Private Limited, Male' Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC), and State Electric Company (Stelco) in a ceremony held at Hotel Jen this Sunday morning.
The agreements with the companies are for water, sewerage and electricity services in the area.
The agreements were signed by Managing Director of Thilafushi Corporation, Ahmed Nasif, and heads of the other companies.
Manager of the Thilafushi project, Mohamed Waseem said that the causeway in current use would be replaced by an 820-meter-long, 30-meter-wide access road which will be built using asphalt. The road will also have a 14-meter-wide pavement.
Waseem said that the company was facing challenges in transporting equipment and machinery to work on the newly reclaimed land.
He said that further development work on the reclaimed land can only be carried out once the access road is built, so that workers can easily transport the equipment and machinery, and have electricity to do their work.
Waseem said that the cost of the project, which is being built from the company budget, is expected to go higher than MVR 40 million.
He said that the project is expected to take 10 months – with the additional land that needs to be reclaimed for the road, show protection, covering the road with asphalt, and other work.
Thilafushi Corporation MD, Nasif noted the number of infrastructure development projects underway in the country, and said that the access road would increase the efficiency of work carried out in Thilafushi.
