SOF attends court under threat of trial in absentia

SOF has attended Civil Court this Thursday, under threat a verdict will be made in their absence if they refused to attend, in the USD 10.7 million embezzlement claim made by Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC).

MMPRC is suing SOF for USD 10.7 million – which amounts to MVR 165 million.

MMPRC has requested for cancellation of promissory notes signed between the two companies citing circumstances which make appliance with the notes doubtful.

MMPRC has asked the court to order payment of USD 10.7 million as part of the agreement in full, claiming SOF had refused to make the payment.

Both sides exchanged documents during the pre-trial hearing held at Civil Court.

A government official who spoke to “Sun” said that the USD 10.7 million was just some of the money which was proven to have been sent by former senior MMPRC officials to SOF through paperwork.
