High Court to hear appeal over PPM on Thursday

High Court has scheduled the first hearing in appeal of the Civil Court ruling ordering Advisor of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), Presidnet Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom to take over running of the party for Thursday, October 20.

Civil Court had ruled on October 16 that Leader of PPM, former Maldivian President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom was incompetent in managing the ruling party, and ordered Advisor of PPM – President Yameen to take over.

The ruling was appealed by one Abbas Wafir from Fen Fiyaz Villa in Hulhudhoo, Addu City; and the appellees have been listed as Naifaru MP Ahmed Shiyam and Hulhudhoo MP Mohamed Shahid – the two PPM members who had filed the lawsuit.

The appeal hearing is scheduled for 10:15 am, Thursday.

Abbas Wafir’s appeal comes as Maumoon’s faction was preparing to appeal the Civil Court ruling.
