PPM: Over 250 forms received for Council Election

Ruling party, PPM has said that they have received over 250 applications for the primaries for the upcoming Local Council Election set for January 2017 by the Elections Commission.

Speaking at a press conference by the PPM supporters of President Maumoon at the PPM Head Office today, a member of the party’s Election Committee, Ali Rahseed said that the deadline for applications for the PPM primaries was originally for 16 October but upon the request of the common members, the deadline has been pushed to 23 October.

He said that all matters of the Local Council Election would be handled by the Election Committee of the party. Shareef said that the Committee has been given a number of responsibilities and has managed 35 elections since the Committee was formed.

Ali Rasheed said that a fee of MVR 150 is being collected from the candidates applying for the primaries and the fee that have collected before contrary to some people have been saying.

Responding to a question from Sun Media at the press conference today, Ali Rasheed said that the agreement with the government coalition party, MDA, has been reviewed and so far there has been no indication from MDA that they are taking part in the Local Council Election.

He said that MDA has not revealed their interest for the constituencies they held before to PPM or the Election Committee of PPM but discussions between MDA and PPM area open.
