Police have decided to carry a postmortem on the five-month old infant who died under State care at the Children’s Shelter in Hulhumale’ in order to determine the cause of his death.
Police reported that the child had died under State care, and it was therefore necessary to determine the cause of his death.
An exact date on which the postmortem will be carried out hasn’t been determined yet.
The infant had been dead when the police received report he was having difficulty breathing and transported him to Hulhumale’ Hospital on emergency.
There are approximately 85 children under the age of 10 years under State protection at the Children’s Shelter in Hulhumale’ – which was opened earlier this year.
Ministry of Gender and Family had recently imposed stricter measures in order to prevent runaways from climbing the wall that surrounds the Children’s Shelter.
