The family of the former Defence Minister, Colonel-retired Mohamed Nazim has said that he would remain in prison even if he has to be there for a thousand years.
Speaking at a press conference today, the brother of the former Defence Minister, Adam Azim said that Nazim is not someone who would flee abroad and assured that he won’t.
“At any condition, (even) if he has to stay (in prison) for a thousand years, Colonel Nazim, he would remain in prison.” Azim said.
He said that Nazim wants to show that things are going bad in the Maldives through his suffering and show the people that things need to be changed in the country. Azim said that the family would work tireless to free Colonel Nazim from prison.
Azim said that every citizen is familiar with the case and the fact that DNA of the former Vice President, Ahmed Adheeb Abdul Gafoor was found on the firearm found at the residence of Colonel Nazim proves that the investigation was incomplete.
The former Defence Minister’s daughter, Aminath Wulaa Mohamed Nazim said that the government has refused to take steps against those who have been negligent in the investigation but they would continue to work locally and from abroad to get justice for Nazim.
Wife of Colonel Nazim, Afaaf Abdul Majeed said that the former Defence Minister’s eye condition is a major issue and has been treated twice in Singapore although they do not have a sufficient treatment.
Afaaf said that an effective treatment can be given from India but the Correctional Service has denied the request to go to India and said that they can only go to Singapore.
So far there has been no response from the Maldives Correctional Service regarding the matter.
