A Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) council meeting has been scheduled for this Sunday night under the supervision of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, in compliance a court order.
Yameen loyalists held a press conference this Sunday afternoon, during which Fonadhoo MP Abdul Raheem Abdulla said that President Yameen had made the decision to schedule a PPM council meeting for 9 pm.
He said all council members, along with PPM Leader, former Maldivian President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom was invited to attend the meeting.
Abdul Raheem said that discussions during the meeting would center around whipping the management of PPM into place and preparing for the upcoming Local Election.
He said council members will also discuss filling the Secretary-General position, which had been vacant for some time.
Leader of PPM Parliamentary Group, Vilimale’ MP Ahmed Nihan Hussain Manik said that Abdul Raheem, Ibrahim Yoosuf Fulhu and Zahid Rameez had been dismissed from the council in violation of party regulation and would therefore be attending the meeting.
He said that former Minister of Home Affairs Umar Naseer and Ahmed Sofwan – who had been appointed to council by Maumoon on Saturday – would not be allowed to attend the meeting.
And neither will Dhiggaru MP Faris Maumoon and former Coordinator at Ministry of Gender, Aminath Nadhira, warned Nihan.
