Abdul Raheem dismissed as PPM Deputy Leader

Fonadhoo MP Abdul Raheem Abdulla has been removed from his post as Deputy Leader of ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM).

Abdul Raheem, along with two other President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom loyalists - Zahid Rameez and Ibrahim Yoosuf Fulhu - have been removed from PPM Council.

In a letter to Abdul Raheem this Saturday, PPM Leader, former Maldivian President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom said that Abdul Raheem was one of three individuals awarded membership of PPM Council as his appointees and informed him that was hereby dismissed.

Maumoon said that the loss of his seat in PPM Council meant Abdul Raheem was no longer Deputy Leader of PPM.

Abdul Raheem was appointed Deputy Leader of PPM from the party Council.

In his letter, Maumoon accused Abdul Raheem of acting in violation of the spirit of the party and spreading lies about him.

“...Making party council members sign different petitions unbeknownst to me, making false comments about me in the media, and many other such acts. As you are one of the three members I appointed to the council, I find the acts I mentioned above deplorable. I have been receiving multiple complaints over your actions from a large number of regular council members,” said Maumoon in his letter.

In his letter announcing the dismissal of Managing Director of New Port, Zahid Rameez, Maumoon said that Zahid was reported to using abusive language on social media, something which he cannot condone for in someone he appointed to the council.

“I sadly hereby dismiss you from PPM Council. I thank your services to this party as a member of this party’s council,” said Maumoon in his letter to Zahid.

In addition, Ibrahim Yoosuf Fulhu was told he was dismissed from his position as Leader of PPM Youth as he no longer fit the age category allocated for membership.

PPM Youth members need to below 31 years of age, which Yoosuf Fulhu reached in May.

Maumoon said that since Yoosuf Fulhu lost his seat as Leader of PPM Youth, he had also lost his seat at PPM Council on default.
