Abdul Raheem: Back away, Yameen will be elected President in 2018

Deputy Leader of ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), MP Abdul Raheem Abdulla has asked anyone who opposed electing President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom to back away, and that the Parliamentary Group and Council would work together and make sure that Yameen is elected a second term.

During the PPM PG press conference this Thursday afternoon, Abdul Raheem said that the PG would not flinch in backing Yameen for the Presidential Elections in 2018.

“Anyone who doesn’t want to back him, stay away. We the Parliamentary Group and the Council will, god willing, work together and bring President Yameen to power. Hear this. We do not have a single bit of doubt over this,” challenged Abdul Raheem.

He said that Yameen had support for his tireless work in bringing prosperity to Maldives from people across the country.

He said that it was one of the biggest responsibilities of all organs of the party to provide their support to ensuring the continuance of the administration of the party’s candidate.

He said that lack of support meant multiple offices being set up elsewhere to do the campaigning.

“So if that support is missing, President Yameen and his supporters will set up offices in different places and press on. This is what anyone would do. This is something that needs to be done. Doesn’t mean defiance against party Council. Doesn’t mean defiance against the party,” said Abdul Raheem.

He said that the party Constitution allowed for President Yameen to be given the party ticket for a second term without a primary.
