Majlis sitting cancelled, no work

People’s Majlis sitting for this Monday has been cancelled due to lack of work set in the agenda.

The third session of the People’s Majlis began last Thursday, October 6, with no announcement made on when a sitting would be held next.

As per People’s Majlis regulation, sittings are compulsory every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of a week.

During the sitting on Thursday, Majlis sent the decision to bring Maldivian embassy in Berlin, Germany under the wing on Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the nomination of Jameela Ali Khalid as the Maldivian Ambassador to Germany by President Abdulla Yameen to the committee for review.

Other work during the sitting – the first after a one-month break – include sending the President’s nomination as Maldivian Ambassador to Bangladesh – Aishath Shan Shakir to the committee for review, sending the decision to rename Ministry of Law and Gender to Ministry of Gender and Family on June 22, 2016 to the committee for review, and sending the decision to transfer Children’s Education and Vocational Training Center from Ministry of Gender and Family to Ministry of Home Affairs to the committee for review.

Lawmakers also debated on the emergency motion filed by Vaikaradhoo MP Mohamed Nazim over the sudden change in price of stable products.
